Scorecard 6/21/12

It's so hard to keep score when you don't even know who the players are.

Of "about 180" originally named in July 2011, "about 70 have left the district." They didn't wait for a charge letter. Some had departed before the Bowers/Wilson report was released, or even filed.

Many of the 70 are unnamed, but I presume it includes superintendent Beverly Hall. It must also include deputy superintendent Kathy Augustine and chief of HR Millicent Few, who had new positions lined up, and who had actually begun work, until their new employers finally figured out who they were. Also included are 13 principals who are named in the Bowers / Wilson report:
  • Gwendolyn Benton, East Lake Elementary
  • Armstead Salters, Gideons Elementary
  • Mable Johnson, Perkerson Elementary
  • Clarietta Davis, Venetian Hills Elementary
  • Corliss Randall-Davenport, Dunbar Elementary
  • Willie Davenport, D.H. Stanton Elementary
  • Andre Williams, Coan Middle
  • Marcus Stallworth, Fain Elementary
  • Patricia Lavant, Whitefoord Elementary
  • Karen Riggins-Taylor, Turner Middle.
  • Linda Paden, Finch Elementary
  • Donald Clark, Humphries Elementary
  • Rebecca Dashiel-Mitchell, Hutchinson Elementary
Six more principals are claiming "you can't fire us, we have tenure" and suing to see the evidence against them:
  • Marlo Barber, F.L. Stanton Elementary
  • Anthony Dorsey, Fickett Elementary
  • Tamarah Larkin-Currie, White Elementary
  • Mimi Robinson, Connally Elementary
  • Tonya Saunders, Toomer Elementary
  • Cheryl Twyman, West Manor Elementary
APS actions as of June 21:
  • Number of educators whose recommended firing was not upheld by a tribunal: 1
  • Number of educators terminated after tribunal hearing: 10
  • Number of educators cleared by the school district and notified they will be reinstated.: 12
  • Number of letters sent to educators outlining charges and the district’s intent to terminate: 50
  • Number of educators notified their contracts will not be renewed: 78
  • Number of final resignations/retirements effective mid-March and through May 30: 39
  • Number of educators still on paid "administrative leave": 30 (I'm guessing none of these are actual teachers: That is to say, they are Testing Coordinators, Principals, SRT Directors, and Assistant Superintendents.)
Georgia Professional Standards Commission actions, as of June 14:
  • Total number of educators under review: 182 (I guess resigning doesn't excuse you from this review)
  • Number of certificates permanently revoked: 39
  • Number of certificates suspended for two years: 78
  • Number of certificates suspended for one year: 1
  • Number of certificates suspended for 90 days: 1
  • Number of educators disciplined but I can't account for: 15
  • Number of educators awaiting release of evidence by DA: 48 (I'm guessing this includes everyone senior to teachers: That is to say, Testing Coordinators, Principals, SRT Directors, and Assistant Superintendents.)
  • Names released by GPSC: 0 "per the commission's policy"
The Fulton District Attorney's office has not yet been heard from. However, an undetermined number of educators are testifying in exchange for having criminal charges dropped.

On April 22, the AJC updated the status of Beverly Hall ("there are no charges pending against Hall"), as well as three of the four SRT Directors: Sharon Davis-Williams, Michael Pitts and Tamara Cotman ("...still on the APS payroll. They earn six-figure salaries. ...They deny any wrongdoing"). In December we learned Robin Hall has a new job at Council of the Great City Schools in Washington, D.C. This appears to have resulted in her removal from the APS payroll.

Previously I named more names, but I removed them in the interests of keeping this document short (and not inflicting further punishment on teachers who were coerced into cheating).
